Garden Ant Problems in Northwich, Middlewich and Weaverham.
Flying ants are the scourge of many folk in summer leaving many people to dread the summer and the annual flying ants invasion which they realise the summer will herald
Only the unluck people who have suffered it will appreciate the true nature of flying ants in their homes.
Having an infestation of ordinary wingless ants is bad enough but when they go through their annual mating phase the situation can become unthinkable.
Ants regularly form colonies in the sub-floor areas and in the wall cavities of our homes and these colonies will survive for many years if left untreated and become progressively more persistent as the years go on.
Our dwellings are warm and dry and provide the ideal places for a thriving ant colony; even solid asphalt floor is not a hindrance to an ant.
Our central heating systems raises their metabolism even in the depths of winter and my earliest ant call-out was on my birthday, which is in January!
Ants like a sandy soil and there are lots of areas in Lancashire, Cheshire and Manchester which produce more ant infestations than others, Southport, Blackpool, Bolton, Sale & Altrincham come to mind as regular ant locations.
Unfortunately it is during their mating phase that they are most annoying. Here in Lancashire, Cheshire and Manchester this tends to be pretty often around the middle of July.
Ants mate in flight and sometime around mid-summer the colony produces winged immature Queens and flying males which in nature would fly off and mate whilst flying. Many thousands of these flying ants are produced by each and nests tend to synchronise their production so that they mate with ants from neighbouring.
Normally this process starts after a couple of days of hot, dry weather and will typically continue for about a week or so although smaller releases will carry on throughout most of June, July & August.
Unfortunately when the nest is under the floor of the house the results can be devastating, literally thousands of flying are produced into the lower rooms, aiming for windows as they go towards the light.
This can be unbelievably distressing for some people leading to extreme emotional trauma to the degree that people learn to dread the summertime and have actually sold their house to avoid the plague of ants which they know will inevitably appear each summer.
The wet summers of 2007, 2008 & 2009 has meant that ant problems were reduced on earlier but ants apparently have a way of catching up and 2010 might be a particularly troublesome year.
Most people who have this problem opt for DIY solutions with products from hardware outlets etc but mostly these efforts do not succeed as they are not getting to the heart of the matter which is the nest itself, tucked safely in the cavity wall or under the floor.
Fortunately for many people the answer.
At Harrier Pest Control (subject to site survey) we are able to cure this problem and give an extendable 3 year guarantee.
The process which is carried out mostly from the outside of the house, is totally safe for animals and children and leaves no smell, involves drilling small holes into the cavity walls of the property, not unlike a damp-course injection and blowing a long lasting insecticide into the cavity wall under pressure.
This forms an impenetrable barrier through which the ants cannot go and along with a precautionary spray of the inside (if deemed necessary) will gradually bring the problem to its end.
The holes, which are only 8mm in diameter remain open so it is a simple matter of topping up the cavities every three years to extend the life of the guarantee in 3 year periods.
This treatment is best carried out in the early spring however it can be done at any time of year.
As a very limited time offer in our quiet period we are offering 25 percent off the usual price until May 30 2010. Whilst we normally cover the whole of Lancashire, Cheshire and Greater Manchester, we are able to travel further afield but this will be reflected in the cost.
