Why We Love Our Diamonds

When you know how diamonds are created it is simple to understand why they are so admired and treasured. First, sufficient pressure and heat over a long period of time is necessary to work the carbon into a stunning diamond, but the diamond is still about 90 miles beneath the surface of the earth. The stones that make a path to the surface of the earth do so through volcanic activity. They are brought up by magma when it climbs up to the earth’s surface in channels where they are deposited near the surface.

This can take thousands to millions of years and it isn’t a calm trip for the diamonds. But this alone isn’t the reason diamonds are so treasured, their extraordinary beauty and durability is what has really made them as respected as they are. The manner in which they sparkle in the light when they’re cut well distinguishes them from all other gemstones. They way in which refract light makes them rather brilliant and distinct. If that isn’t plenty they are also incredibly durable, diamonds really are forever which makes them the ideal gem for symbolic jewelry like anniversary rings.

It seems as if these precious gems have been valued ever since they were discovered and they will likely continue to be hot well into the future, if not always. The one thing that appears to vary is the way they are utilized depending on the cultural trend at the given moment. The most common use of diamonds in our time is for diamond engagement rings, although even this is changing a bit. The conventional wedding ring has a white diamond but more recent movements include the use of a colored diamond for these occasions, like a natural diamond ring.

With this trend to natural color diamonds there has been greater interest in raw or uncut diamonds. This version does not exhibit the glimmer of the cut stone, rather it features a unique, rustic beauty. The green trend might be influencing jewelry trends getting us back to the basics or maybe it’s simply the normal progression of the industry. Regardless it allows for a fun variety in the jewelry world.
